Under the floorboards...

After a lovely break for the festive season we are now back to work....

The electrics are all in, as is a brand new boiler and water tank, so we can now start putting things back!

While the floorboard were up, we found quite a few interesting things that have been there for several decades, an empty cigarette box and empty match box, a draft piece, an old chisel, some pages of The Strand magazine around 1905, not to mention some repairs to the boards using old tin cans! There were some less interesting things such as a dead mouse and an awful lot of empty nut shells! We didn't take any pictures of those.

The Matchbox is about normal size, and the cigarette box isn't much bigger, and someone had been doing a sum on the back of the matchbox.

Edwardian beauty products.

As we are opening a B&B, on the 2nd floor we are required to put sound insulation under the floorboards. So we cleared all the debris.

Free from dead mice and cigarette packets.
Added a layer of chicken wire, so should there be a fire the ceiling would stay up a little longer.

Then a layer of insulation.

Then isolation strips on each joist to further reduce the sound.

Then building regulations have to come and sign it off. Only then can the floor go back down!

It does feel like we are getting somewhere though.......We have started a facebook page too, if anyone would like to 'like' it......
